Telnet

Telnet access to Servant of the Lord: Online! is now 23 hours 45 minutes each day.

Send email the SysOp: Charles Wootten for more information if needed.

The TELNET connexion is servantofthelord.org.

It may surprise you to know that on 1 January 2002 we activated a web-based interface at Servant of the Lord BBS. New folks must answer the private questionnaire before admittance and be verified. Aliases (screen names) are not acceptable at any time.

If you are not able to connect to Servant of the Lord: Online! via Telnet...

  1. Does your Internet software/browser support Telnet? For example, if you are using NETSCAPE or if you subscribe to America Online (AOL), you may need to download a special application to use Telnet.  It's usually a pretty simple procedure.
  2. Try "reloading" the page using your Internet software.
  3. SOTLBBS may not be online at the time.
  4. Write to the SysOp, Charles Wootten, if you have specific questions or have the system activated for you at a certain time.

Telnet is Terminal emulation protocol originally developed for ARPAnet.  In common usage today, this is a protocol often used to permit accessing computer Bulletin Board Systems (BBS) via the internet.  Telnet connections, with the URL prefix, "telnet://" provide faster delivery to a text based BBS than a graphical browser to the world wide web ("http://") at the same speed connection.  Indeed a 2400 bps modem connection is usually satisfactory for telnet to a BBS.  Don't even think about connecting to the world wide web with Netscape or Internet Explorer at that speed.  Unfortunately, telnet access usually requires a special application with todays newest Internet browsers.
